Meet the Staff: Haley McLendon

The mission of the Caldwell Public Library is to "provide services and information to connect, enrich, and inspire our community." Library staff strives to provide the best possible experience for our users - both in-person and online. We understand the importance of building trust with our users and helping them find the resources they need. Over the next several months, we will highlight each of our staff members and the work they do to provide excellent library services to you - our users

Hello! My name is Haley McLendon, and I am the new marketing specialist at the library. My job is to make sure everyone in the community knows about the amazing resources and fun activities going on at the library. I am in charge of the library’s publicity and social media channels and I help out with the website. In this time of virtual programs, I have also become an impromptu video editor!

On top of the amazing books we have available to check out, the library also has a ton of digital resources and our staff is always coming up with new and fun programs to engage readers of all ages. We have great books and even better people. Since I spend most of my workday at my computer in the back, my main interactions with patrons happen online. I love engaging with you on social media, so be sure to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

I have a bachelor’s degree in creative writing from Western Washington University, where I also minored in journalism. Storytelling has always been my passion, and now I’m lucky enough to help tell the story of your public library.

I’m new to the Caldwell area, but the library community has made me feel so welcome. I grew up in a small town in Montana and moved around the Pacific Northwest for a few years before landing in Boise with my fiancé, Luke. Idaho is quickly becoming home for us, and we have enjoyed exploring the area and finding new places to take our border-collie mix, Nigel, on walks.

It is probably obvious from my degree and where I work, but I love to read and write. While I love fiction and creative nonfiction, my absolute favorite genre is poetry. Right now, some of my favorite poets are Kevah Akbar, Danez Smith, Maggie Smith, and Ocean Vuong. Other authors I love include Fredrik Backman, Yaa Gyasi, and Celeste Ng. Outside of literature, my hobbies include watching cooking channels on YouTube, binging book-to-television adaptations (after reading the book, of course), and quilting.

Thank you for welcoming me to your library. I’m so excited to be here!
