Meet the Staff: Nichelle Dykema

Updated: Jul 31, 2019

The mission of the Caldwell Public Library is to "provide services and information to connect, enrich, and inspire our community." Library staff strive to provide the best possible experience for our users - both in-person and online. We understand the importance of building trust with our users and helping them find the resources they need. Over the next several months, we will highlight each of our staff members and the work they do to provide excellent library services to you - our users.

The Roman Baths in Bath, England

Hello! My name is Nichelle Dykema. I’m the marketing specialist for the Caldwell Public Library. I’m responsible for all the library publicity, program posters and calendars, our website and social media channels. One of my goals is to make sure you find out what’s happening at the library as easily as possible and that you feel a sense of belonging at the library. This is your library.

I am a born and raised Idahoan. I grew up as a pilgrim in the "world’s largest horseshoe," New Plymouth. I moved to Boise for college and lived there for 15 years. I have an AA in Graphic Design and a BA in Finance. I have a passion for design. I am an artist and singer. I love history and architecture.

I love to travel, learning about and experiencing other cultures. I have traveled in Greece, the UK, the Netherlands, Nicaragua, Mexico, Peru, Ecuador and the Galapagos, and in 2017, I took an opportunity to live abroad in The Dominican Republic for a short time.

Returning to the US in the fall of 2018, I returned to my country-girl roots and joined the team here at the Caldwell Public Library. I’m an avid reader. Some would say books are my kryptonite. When everything else went into storage, my books got a foster home. My friends and family will tell you, if I don’t respond to messages for a while, I’m probably down a rabbit hole in another time and place. Nose in a book for hours on end.

I love the library for its books. But I equally love this library for its community. The library is a place for everyone. A place to learn, a place to dream, a place to meet friends old and new. I am so excited for the opportunity to share all the amazing things that are available at the library, for free! There are so many things I’ve learned since I started here. For instance, did you know you can check out cake pans!?! No need to buy that Elsa from Frozen pan for the one time you’ll ever use it. Check it out at the library!

You may not see me around the library much. Most of my day is spent in the back, but I love to hear about how you are finding out what’s happening at the library or what your favorite things are about the library. Drop me a message on any of our channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, comment here, email, or our suggestion box in the library). I’m always interested to hear about how you use the library and how I can help make that experience even better.
