Zoom: How to Get Started

Updated: 4 days ago

What is Zoom?

These days it feels like the whole world is on Zoom. People have been using it for business, keeping in touch with family, and for other meetings or meetups that we are missing in person, such as therapy sessions and drinks with friends. But the new Zoom user may feel overwhelmed by the task of trying out something new and confusing. Don't worry, your Caldwell Public Librarians are here to help!

First off, what is Zoom? Zoom is a media platform that allows users to share video and audio with each other in a live session or in a pre-recorded session. It is basically filling in the gap where we used to meet in person for collaboration, like church or school. We still need to meet, but are not able to do so in person since it is still an unsafe time while we wait for medical advances. Fortunately, you don't need to be an expert to use Zoom for your basics, but some guidance is always helpful.

Where to Start

There are a lot of places you can find some help with Zoom, and starting with the company resource page you can find some nice instructional videos to get you going.

Other options are YouTube videos like the one I have linked here.

There are also articles that help explain how to use Zoom on your phone. This one is how you can get started on iOS and this one is for Android devices.

Niche Academy

Niche Academy has a great video on how to set up with Zoom and how to use it's basic functions. Caldwell Public Library has access to Niche Academy which teaches many other subjects as well. You can find the Zoom tutorial here, as well as the blog we wrote about Niche Academy.

Tutoring

Our library is offering tutoring sessions through Zoom for those of you who would like to get back into receiving help with your projects! Our tutoring sessions and computer assistance has always been popular at the library, and we are excited to be able to offer something that can help you during this time of social distancing and stay at home orders. You can book an appointment here. Hopefully, this blog has helped you set up for your future session!

Need Help?

Don't forget that if you get stuck along the way and you don't want to spend too much of your scheduled session time setting up Zoom, that you can ask us for assistance during our altered business hours. You can call us, email, or chat with us through the website. We can guide you the best we can through these options. Do not hesitate to ask for help, we are trying our hardest to make sure we are here for you!
