Mobile Hotspot FAQ

Mobile Hotspots at the Caldwell Public Library

Mobile hotspots are available to borrow from Caldwell Public Library. A WiFi hotspot is a device you can use to connect a mobile-enabled device, such as a laptop, smartphone, or tablet, to the Internet.  The hotspot allows multiple devices to connect at a time. Unlimited data is available for streaming music, videos, web browsing, and email.

The hotspot is portable, so you can connect your device almost wherever you are, as long as it is in the T-Mobile 3G or 4G network area. (click to see coverage map)

Who can borrow a mobile hotspot?
Any Treasure Valley LYNX Consortium cardholder, 18 years or older, with a current library card in good standing.

How many can I borrow?
Due to limited quantities, only one device per household can be checked out and they are not eligible for renewal.

Can I place a hold on a hotspot?
Yes, the item can be placed on hold through our online library catalog.  Caldwell Public Library cardholders have priority access to hotspots.

How long can I check it out?
Hotspots check out for 14 days, no renewals.  Hotspots must be checked out and returned to a Treasure Valley LYNX Consortium library location. They cannot be returned to a book drop.

What if I need help with the hotspot?
Instructions are included with the hotspots.  If you need further assistance, please ask staff for assistance.  One-on-one sessions with staff are also available.  Hotspots can be charged with the power cord that is included in the box, via USB port or by using the wall charger.

What if I lose or damage the hotspot?
Overdue fines are $5 per day.  The WiFi hotspot will be turned off remotely if it is not returned on the due date, and Internet access will not be available.  If the hotspot is lost, please contact the library immediately. The replacement fee is the market value cost to replace the hotspot, which is currently $180 along with the processing fee of $5.00.
